BROKEN PHONE

Purchased a phone from Truworths in September 2014. Phone heated up and died. Returned it to the store for repairs and was advised it would be booked in the following day. Upon following up, I discovered, the phone was still laying at the branch 2 days later and was advised they are still waiting for the MTN repair centre to collect the phone. Needless to say, after much frustration and phone calls, the phone was only collected from the store a week later?... I contacted the repair centre for the status of the phone and was told by the consultant, they will not repair it as the warranty does not cover for LIQUID DAMAGE??? How is this possible with a phone that lived in a pouch since date of purchase and the phone laying at the store for a week? I now have to fork out R330.00 for the release of my phone? END RESULT - I AM SITTING WITH A PHONE FULLY PAID, UNDER WARRANTY AND UNFIXED...

Hello marcelle30,

Thank you for your post.

MTN SP After Sales is accredited to assess and perform cellular repairs under strict manufacturer guidelines and as such, specific criteria is app**** when assessing devices to validate warranty. This is done in accordance with procedures laid down by each manufacturer.

The handset does not necessarily have to be splashed, soaked or immersed in liquid to be deemed liquid damaged. Excessive humidity and slight moisture can just be as damaging to the circuit tracks on the board.

Traces of liquids being detected on handsets therefore voids Warranty and renders handset BER (Beyond Economical Repairs) due to the complexities and costs to repair.

We regret to advise that should the handset be found to be liquid damaged, it cannot be fixed under warrantee. However you are still welcome to request second opinion by having the handset re-booked.

Rest assured, it is not our intention to displease you. We look forward to improving on the service delivery to you.

Regards
Thabelo
