Black Friday Ripoff

I was looking for a new contract with a phone for my mother, and MTN's Black Friday deal seemed great. A Samsung Galaxy S8+, with a 256 GB memory card, as well as 30GB of data per month. Seemed great, and the Salesman even offered to throw in a travel voucher to the value of R4000. I also wanted the 50GB data deal for myself as my own contract was due an upgrade - the salesman told me that I couldn't do that, however, as the data deal only app**** to new numbers. I since found this to be false.

This was all organized prior to Black Friday, however, the phone was not ready then, and I only got it the following week. I then found out the data deal was only for the first 3 months... I was also told the card was available through the Samsung rewards app, but there was no option to claim it. When I did go back to the MTN store, because the number still hadn't ported across, they used the rewards app on the phone to message Samsung, who responded that the deal has been closed!

Coupled to this, the phone came with a Samsung voucher to use with the purchase of any Samsung product. The Salesman advised me to rather save it and use it in the Samsung store, so I bought a Samsung case full price from MTN. When I went to a Samsung store, they informed me that the voucher was only valid in MTN stores.

My own contract is still due an upgrade, but I don't think I'll be staying with MTN after this **** experience.

Months later, and nothing has come of this. The number was never ported. Debits are automatically coming off our account, for a number that doesn't even work. Canceling the contract. Done with MTN and their horrible service.
