Billing woes with MTN

I have been an mtn customer for a good 10 years and even when things got tough for me financially I would honour my account payments, having to pay manually to mtn for a good few months.

My impression of mtn was so good I took out another contract under my name for my mother`s use. After years of religiously paying for both contracts every month we get an sms from mtn on my mothers line on the 21st of april 2018 stating that they are suspending her line for non payment, only to receive another sms from mtn on the 30th of april 2018, some days later stating that it has been resolved and that her line will be reinstated.

We thought nothing else of it as we had received the sms. Some time passed and no services had been reinstated at which point I called mtn to inquire only to discover that my account had been handed over to an external legal department without my knowledge or any notice and phone call from mtn. I was informed that my account had been handed over for a fee of about R3000.00 though the initial sms stated R510.50. We agreed that I would pay R500.00 per month until that figure was settled during which period my mothers services would remain suspended, even though it was clear that I had another account that was fully up to date and which remains up to date even now.

I have received numerous calls and sms`s from mtn regarding an upgrade that I am due for, for the number that is up to date. An upgrade which failed due to the other account. I queried with mtn as well as the legal department dealing with my account and the initial R3000 that i was owing mtn is almost if not completely paid off already, but now I owe a further aprox. R10000.00 !!!!!

After months of believing in good faith that my issues with mtn have been resolved and that I am working towards paying of a debt that I should not have had in the first place, as mtn issued a notice that it was resolved, I am now sitting in a worse off financial position due to mtn and their inability to take care of customers who have been with them for over a decade. I called today and received an mtn ref of 1- ********** 5144. i have been assured that this matter will be escalated, at this point I have no faith in anything I am told, I will have an update on tuesday, whether positive or negative. At this point I am very weary of mtn and dont think i will continue with my upgrade if this situation is ever resolved and i would never recommend this network to anyone ever, even though as we speak I hold zakhele futhi shares.

I am thoroughly disappointed with mtn.
