Billing for a cancelled contract and unfair suspension of service

I am at a total loss with MTN. I cancelled a contract with them on 27 December 2019. I called on 30 December and they confirmed that the contract was cancelled. They subsequently billed me for the same contract in January 2020 and added charges in excess of R2000 for the same cancelled contract. As if that was not enough, they have decided to suspend my service for my 2 other lines which are paid up in full.

Emails to them lead to a dead end with a meaningless reference number. Calls lead to numerous escalations with more reference numbers. On Facebook they informed me that the amount in excess of R2000 is for "early termination penalties", notwithstanding the fact that I already paid such a penalty on 27 December when I paid the cancellation quote of R917.

What on earth is going on? Why am I being charged for a service that has been cancelled? Why are my lines being suspended when they are not owing and due to a contract that has been cancelled?

Please check your own statements before you respond.

My account was paid up in full at the time of cancellation. If it was in arrears it follows that the cancellation quote given to me would have been inclusive of the outstanding amount.

As a matter of fact, the cancellation quote of R917 was inclusive of any outstanding amounts. A simple look at my statements confirms that the account was fully paid up and that the unexplained amounts were added after the cancelation ought to have been effected.

Calling the 135 number is of no assistance to me as the only thing I end up with is reference numbers that no one can subsequently trace. I have been through that exercise already more than once.
