Beware the warranty that guarantees misery.
I bought a Nokia 5 cash at the Northgate walk-in store. I do not have a laptop and use my phone primarily to run my business, communicate with my customers and as my sole form of income. The phone seemed faultless and in good working condition until day 2 when it started to randomly switch itself on and off. Day 3 the power button became loose and started to rattle. My friend also has a Nokia 5 and after one month his power button is not loose. The phone switched itself off again and did not want to power on. Eventually it came on after 3 attempts of trying, using the rattling power button. Day 4 the web connection fluctuated on and off, on and off making it extremely frustrating to use the phone. The phone again decided to power on and off by itself. Day 5 the web connection was back to normal, but alas again - on and off all by itself 4 times. The power button has now progressed into something that simulates the sound of a rattle snake. However you move the phone it rattles at any movement. It is so loose that it seems that it will fall off at any time. Day 6 the phone again switches off by itself and then restarts 3 times during the day. Day 7 I decided that this was unacceptable and then decided to call the walk in store at Northgate. I found a number on the web for them and called this number 4 times with no answer. I then called the other MTN store in Northgate at 4:50 pm only to be informed that they do not have a number as they are a "walk in only store" only ? I asked her to please give a message to the walk in store that i was bringing the phone in at 5:30 pm and she then informed me that the walk in closes at 5 pm. The other walk in stores all close at 6 pm so obviously this lady is misinformed. I then searched for a phone number on the invoice and called this number situated directly under the walk in store's address. A lady answered at my 3rd attempt and informed me that this was a private number. I confirmed the number on the invoice and she said she was definitely not MTN. Why is her number on the invoice then? So in short there was no way I could contact the store to tell them that I was returning the faulty Nokia 5 and, I was informed that they where closing at 5 pm. I then went to the store the next day and got informed that the day you purchase the phone counts as day 1. I as most people do thought 24 hours have to pass before you can call it a day. The very friendly manager Conrade said to me that he would personally take my phone to MTN Midrand to be tested by the technicians as I informed him that I can not run my business without it. I was informed that it usually takes two days to be sorted. Today is day 4. I have been in informed that the phone is now being sent to Nokia on Monday. So in total that is 6 days without my phone - for now - but I am sure MTN will elongate this misery to at least 2 weeks whilst I am losing money and customers and can not run my business. At no stage did I ask for or insist on a refund, I only want a Nokia 5 that works. Spare yourself the trouble, make sure your phones gets faulty within 7 days and, then make sure you have an invoice with a private number on it when you need to call the store. And then do not expect MTN to comprehend the words customer service, there may be a service but it does not include this customer. Also do not call other MTN stores within the same mall as you will only receive incorrect information regarding hours. Today I had to get a Nokia Neo for R 200 as MTN can not be bothered to understand my situation. One day becomes two, two days become a week and so on and on and on we go. At least I can make and receive calls now. MTN has no idea of the suffering, frustration and financial implications their actions are causing me. I am currently at an internet shop as I do not have my phone. So I have to spend more and more money and MTN whilst knowing of my situation - could not be bothered. I need a Nokia 5 that works. Is this really an incomprehendable issue to MTN? Please call Conrade at your walk in store before 5 pm to get my number as I do not have internet access. If you do not mind actually really understanding my situation and if it is not to much to ask.
