BE WARNED - DONT OPEN A CONTRACT WITH MTN!

I have tried to cancel a 24 month contract with MTN since December 2014. Initially via customer services (email) who duck and dart about, giving one reference numbers that do not mean anything, or emails saying they will phone you.
On 2 occasions i have visited MTN stores (Rosebank & Norwood).both assistants advised me of the severe penalties. Both stores, after taking all my details, knowing full well they would/could not assist me, advised they could not calculate the penalty, and they could not take cash to exit from the contract.
I was advised to go directly to customer care in Morningside, as they have cash machines etc. I have driven to Customer Care in Morningside. The assistant there could not calculate the penalty, nor could she phone or speak to anyone in the MTN building to find out what this should be. She could only email customer care (!) or send an sms.
In short, no one can assist with termination of contract. Too secretive and too difficult. so my advice is use Vodacom or Cell C. Is their an Ombud for companies like this?
