On page 13 of the June 2017 edition of "Y'ello deals", MTN advertises the Samsung Galaxy s8 and S8 plus. Below this is a photo of a Samsung Gear S3 watch and the words "Add R130 per month to any of these Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+ contract eals and get the Samsung Gear 3".

June 2 I went to MTN Pavilion store to take them up on this deal. After completing all the documentation and signing a stack of pages I was told that the Gear 3 deal had not yet been "loaded onto their system". I would be called the next day with an update.

June 3 After calling the store and waiting until the line went dead (wth no one answering - 10h40) I returned to the store in an attempt to complete the transaction I was told that the deal had still not been loaded and that it could not be done until next week as it was done at head office which was closed until Monday.

After asking how they could advertise a deal wthout it being an available option, I was repeatedly assured that the deal was available but I was unable to have it until it was at some stage loaded onto their system (which to me sounds like the deal was not available).

If a deal is advertised as "...valid from 1 June - 30 June 2017 or while stocks last", should the deal not be available (as in actually something one can physically attain)?

When I was enquiring about upgrading my contract about a month prior I overheard a conversation about a Samsung TV being offered as part of a contract that could not be honoured.

Is MTN running bait adverts to pull us into their stores and then blaming Samsung?

The staff in the store were very well mannered and did explain that their hands were tied. Why would MTN make these offers knowing they could not fulfil them and that it would put both themselves and Samsung in a bad light?

Best regards,
Thank you for escalating the matter to the Sales advisory team. I eagerly await a response from them.
In the meantime I was contacted by a store to be told that 'the deal has been loaded' however no stores I contacted (Westville, Hillcrest. Watercrest, Mtn Direct) have any stock nor do any have any idea when stock is expected to arrive.
How can this be advertised if 6 days into the offering of the deal (20%) no one even knows when the stock advertised is arriving?

7 days into the deal and I have yet to receive anything other than a generic response.

A special thank you to Sihle (initial sales consultant) for getting in touch with me and helping me conclude this matter. I feel he really tried to do his best considering his hands were tied most of the time. A brief thank you to Tracy from MTN Direct, the only other person, out of the many who promised to contact me, that actually did.
