Bad service from online application
I have been a loyal MTN customer for 20+ years, and I am so disappointed in their service at the moment. I have upgraded from contract to contract over the years, but in about January, needed to cancel my contract, and move over to pay as you go for a few months. I have been trying to go back onto a contract from July this year. I have tried 4 times to apply for a contract online. I find the handset I want, I find the package I want and receive the email confirming the price of the contract. The first 3 times, I wouldn't go further with the contract process, as the price was always more expensive than what was advertised in both the "Yello Trader" booklet posted online for that month, and what was advertised online. I refused to pay more. First, the lady just put the phone down on me when I challenged the price difference. And I never received any call back. The second time the consultant, Matthew, told me that they hadn't received the new "Yello Trader" for that month, so couldn't confirm the price (it was already about the 2nd of July, and I had gotten my information on pricing from the booklet in question which I downloaded from the MTN website). He then promised to call me back in a day or two when he was sure they would have the booklet. He never called back. The third time I app**** online, the 7th July, I received a call saying that my application from the last time was still pending, and this person couldn't help me and would get Matthew to phone me back so he can complete the process. He, of course, did not. I finally tried applying again this week. First,Sydney also told me (again) that the contract would be more expensive than what was started in the Yello Trader and the website (and the e-mail I received after online application). He then put me on hold to confirm, and came back with the correct price. We then went through the whole process, and he tells me about delivery of the new handset and sim card, I ask about the fact that I really need to keep the same cellphone number. He then says that I cannot port my number and that since Covid, there is no porting of cellphone number. I have done some checking, and this was true in the beginning of lockdown, but from what I can see, this restriction was eased already in MAY! I really would have thought that the online application would be so very difficult, and why the company managing the online applications for MTN can't have the same information available to them that is freely available on the website. Does MTN want new and repeated business? Why are they making it so hard then? I am VERY much tempted to go and take my business elsewhere, and encourage all my family (who have also been loyally with MTN), to take their business elsewhere too.
