Awesome Service - NOT

So I bought my 12 year old a pre paid sim card from my local MTN store, however, he is now getting abusive messages from the sim card previous owner who says that this is her number??? I was NEVER informed that the numbers are recycled....

When i called the store to ask if it had been RICA's in my name i was told they cant tell me and to call the call centre which i duly did. I got shuffled around from person to person (none helpful) and finally told they cant pick the number up on the system as being in my name. Why bother RICA'ing anything then, hopefully MTN SA also gets a big fat fine for being so super in-efficient with their RICA'ing......

When i called the store back to complain about the abuse my 12 year old was getting from the previous owner I was told that its not their problem that the previous owner was a "psycho" and that i must just come down to the store and get a new "recycled" sim card, hence pay more money and waste more time getting another sim RICA'ed....

I have serious issues with this recycling of sims, apparently if a number is unused for more than 90 days it gets recycled and handed to another person, so who knows how many people have had to endure abuse because the previous owners were not happy. What if the number had been used in a crime? For Cyber stalking? It suddenly pops back up as active on Whatapp and the new owners are then subject to all manner of abuse as once again that number is active...

Thanks MTN for putting my son through verbal abuse, thanks for NOT notifying me that the number was recycled and thanks for being so utterly "fantastic and understanding" in this situation, as a network you have a seriously ****ty attitude.

Good Day Samantha Landsberg

Thank you for your post.

We are terribly sorry for the inconveniences that you experienced as a result of this. We completely understand the frustration it causes.

Kindly be advised that as per MTN’s Business rules, cell numbers are recycled if the sim card has not been in use for 90 days. Kindly be advised to visit the store you purchased the sim card from in order to get a new sim card.

Rest assured it is not our intention to displease you. We look forward to improving on the service delivery to you.

Kind Regards,

Zukiswa
