Appalling Application Vetting & ***** Detection.

Due to MTN's poor vetting process, I was alerted by way of debit order that I had an MTN account.

Upon realizing this I reversed the debit order with my bank and went to an MTN store to enquire, indeed it turned out that I had some MTN contract(s) in my name.

I was advised to submit a police affidavit and log a dispute at the store and an outcome would be issued within 21 days.(Dispute was logged on the 3rd of May 2022, it is now the 14th of June).

Whilst waiting for MTN to resolve this issue my credit profile was negatively affected due to two MTN defaults in my name.

As such I have lost a job opportunity with a financial services company after failing credit vetting my offer of employment was withdrawn and this has cost my family dearly.

I have all within my legal rights to dispute and perhaps even escalate this MTN matter as I was inconvenienced by MTN's poor verification process and their eagerness to issue out devices to every qualifying customer without proper due diligence.

Had MTN used my contact details from credit bureau they would have realized sooner that I am not aware of any contract application, but instead they must have used the number on the application form instead and informed the imposter that the contract was approved.

This, in my opinion makes no sense because while supposedly MTN was vetting my application, they would have received all my contact details and email from credit bureau and as such I could have cancelled this application before it got any further. Instead I was only alerted to this by a debit order going off my bank account.

I have been calling into the call center to get resolution on this matter and I am told that it is still sitting with the ***** department and the status is in "pre-termination".

Because I am on the job market and I have already failed credit vetting for one good opportunity this matter is rather urgent and is a huge inconvenience.

I am now considering legal action and will seek damages for all the employment contracts I forfeit as a result of poor credit vetting thanks to MTN. I have all of these on record and will seek legal counsel should my issue not be resolved.

This is reckless lending by MTN and I do not approve of their application vetting process.
