An extremely unhappy long standing customer
I have been with MTN for 15 years and have enjoyed their service offering. My contract expired in September 2020 and I wanted to cancel my two contracts (1 voice and 1 data) so that I could take a good contract out with a good data bundle and use an old prepaid number of mine on the new contract.
I was going to actually change to Telkom as they have really good data rates and bundle prices. Now I'm wishing I did.
I took out my new contract in September with MTN ON CONDITION that they could cancel my other two contracts and I WON'T be billed for all three at month end. The sales assistant told me that I must make sure I cancel on the 12th of September so as not to start the new billing cycle and I did just that. Called the call centre before 12 midday as he suggested and cancelled the two old contracts as they had expired.
The lady on the phone said it was done and gave me the following reference number: *** I was under the impression that this was the end of the process...
LOW AND BEHOLD... MTN charged me for all three contracts this month and seeing that I leave slightly more than the total value of all my debit orders in the current account used, not only did my MTN payment bounce but so did other debit orders (causing me to incur penalties) and MTN decided to freeze my contract so I can't even use my phone unless I'm connected to WIFI.
I am extremely upset and I feel this is no way to treat a long standing client. Called the call centre today... was given the run around to different departments... stayed on hold for customer retentions who dropped my call after 10 to 15 minutes of waiting.
Please assist or cancel my new contract as well, take the new phone back and charge me for the month I used it.
Thanks...
