ADVERTISING INCORRECT CONTACT NUMBER

Early June 2016 I visited MTN Baywest, Port Elizabeth, to enquire about upgrading my current contract.

The sales person attending to me took down my details and promised to order the phone I was interested in. Shortly thereafter I started receiving telephone calls from people wanting to make contact with the MTN Baywest store. For some unknown reason my cell phone number ended up as the contact number for this store on Google as well as with 1023 and also from the MTN Head Office.

I contacted the MTN store at Baywest Mall and spoke to a Manager, an African male person whose name I could not get. Whilst speaking to him on the phone he actually searched for the store’s contact details and confirmed that it is indeed my cell phone number appearing and not the store’s number. He promised to resolve the problem.

On Thursday, 23 June, my wife also phoned the store on their correct number and left a message for the Manager to return her call – it was an African lady being the store manager on that day. As she received no phone call from the store manager, she decided to visit the store after work. At approximately 18H35 she attended on the store and only found 1 African lady and 1 white lady in the store. When she enquired as to the whereabouts of the manager and mentioned she was still waiting for the manager to return her call, she realised she was speaking to the lady whom actually took the message earlier that day. The lady from MTN advised her that the manager mentioned “we” already spoke to the other manager (male) and she was not going to return the call. The lady on duty enquired as to what the problem was and my wife informed her of the incorrect cell phone number appearing on the web as well as people being rude to me when I inform them that it was a private individual’s number they phoned and not that of the MTN store This lady promised to get either one of the manager’s to get back to my wife. Until this minute neither of the managers have contacted either myself or my wife.

I have been a loyal MTN customer for many years and have 2 contracts with MTN.

I then posted a review of my problem on the MTN Facebook page, Baywest Mall Facebook page as well as the MTN website. This resulted in immediate responses from the Mall, MTN Facebook page as well as the MTN Baywest Store.

This is now more than a month later and the situation has still not been resolved. I am just getting more and more telephone calls each day from people thinking they are phoning the MTN Baywest Store.

I now really had enough of this as it is interfering with my job. Due to my work position I cannot choose which calls to answer and have to take all incoming calls.

Thank you for the response, BUT we already received the exact same promise nearly a month ago and no progress has been made. Thus, the reason for making contact with Hello Peter.

An apology is not enough - do something to resolve the issue.
