Advertised online package will cost R70 per month more

False advertising? I wanted to upgrade my MTN cellphone contract. The package I was on, is not available anymore, and I took forever to choose a new package.

I now chose a package (selecting the made for me option), that is advertised on the online upgrade (MTN Website), and it is advertised as R799. This is for: Made for me M: 150 minutes, 1 Gig data, 100 sms and extra 2GB of data added with the phone Huawei P20 Pro.

When I selected to upgrade online, the online automated response says that I am not eligible for an upgrade, but will be December 2017 (long due).

In-store as well as at customer care (phoning 135), they say that this package is not available at that tariff, but at R70 per month (R1680 over 24 months) more. The total will be R869 pm.

I feel this is false advertising.

The telephone representative from MTN asked me to email their customer complaints, as she could not help. I received no response after an emailed complaints to ********** or **********
