Account in collections for almost a year

I have been calling them every month for almost a year to credit my account due to me returning a device they sent me. Every month they tell me they have escalated the matter and it will be sorted in a few days. Now my account is in collections and I can't do cancel or upgrade any current contracts due to them not sorting the matter.
