My contract expired, I gave the required notice that I would not be signing another contract with them. That was beginning of November. I got an invoice this month and asked what it was far. I was told that it's a cancellation fee. For an expired contract?

Here is some help with terminology -

Expiry: the date on which a contract ceases to exist. Cancellation: the termination of a contract prior to its expiry date.

Prior to receiving the invoice I had exchanged numerous emails with MTN trying to get them to either respond, or to confirm expiry. On 4 December they confirmed that the contract no longer exists.

So a few things: 1. Why is the MTN app so useless that a contract cannot be terminated, downgraded or notification given for expiry notice? 2. Why in the week after emailing to advise that no upgrade will be taken does the MTN upgrades department spam one with phone calls trying to sell an upgrade? 3. Why do communications go unanswered? 4. In the interest of public knowledge, how much money has MTN made in the last year from charging "cancellation fees" for expired contracts?

I am pushed around from pillar to post and have most recently today been told to contact the retention department. Been there done that weeks ago!

So, you guys can request my details via email and I will send them once more. You can deal with the retentions department and email me with confirmation that the contract no longer exists and supply an invoice with a zero balance. There is no scenario in which I am paying a fictitious cancellation fee.

If you would like me to go through the procedure again of back and forth dealing with your various departments then I am happy to invoice you for my time.

I will continue, via social media, to make customers aware of this "cancellation fee" that is implemented when not upgrading.
