MRP Mobile SIM card / contract misrepresentation

Based on the number of complaints here, I know there are more unwitting Mr Price account holders, whom I believe have been preyed upon by the new Mr Price Mobile division.

I received a call in Feb this year with regard to the launch of MRP Mobile and the offer of a free SIM card as a thank you from MRP for being a loyal account holder. The agent told me that the SIM card would offer me a number of benefits. She stated that MRP would load me with R200 airtime per month but what she didn't state was that this amount would be deducted off my account!

The agent clearly stated that the SIM card is coming to me at no extra cost and what I would pay for is loading airtime that I could purchase on my account.

Upon reviewing my most recent account statement from Mr Price, I picked up an amount of R200 that was debited from my account under MRP SIM 200 TOP UP. I then went back to view my March and April statements where I saw the same deductions. Further in the March statement, I picked up a SIM CONNECTION fee of R100! I had been roped into a mobile contract without knowing or expressly consenting to it.

I was infuriated and immediately contacted their contact centre where I spoke to a Neliswa Mlambo (***) and further Lindiwe Sekhakane (***). I explained that I was not informed by the agent who initially contacted me that it was a contract of which airtime would be automatically loaded and debited from my account monthly. I have not even used the SIM card since its arrival nor used any airtime or data from it. The SIM is apparently automatically activated upon delivery. I requested that it immediately be cancelled. I further requested that all fees relating to this SIM card be reversed on my account.

After a lot fuss and bother, I finally got a copy of the recording which I have reviewed carefully - the agent was very ambiguous and misleading. I have sent several emails to Lindiwe and have still not received any feedback to date.

From March to May 2017, MRP Mobile have taken R700 off my account in total - more than my current monthly mobile contract! This is unacceptable - a contract without a paper trail! I am now at my wits end and do not have the time to follow up with the call centre agents only to be sent from pillar to post. Why should I beg for a resolution and fight for my money back?! I have been a loyal MPR account holder for many years now and my account has always been in good standing. This is a very poor reflection on the MRP brand.
