Mr Price Cellular Return Policy in violation of Consumer Protection Act
Do not buy from Mr. Price Mobile or Mr. Price Cellular. When you buy from them, they do not tell you about their lousy 7-day return policy. So if you handset, earphones, airpods or any accessory that you purchased from them breaks on the 8th day, no matter the cost, whether it's R5 or R8000, they won't allow you to exchange it or get or money back. Nevermind The Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 that states the following because they have their own Constitution. Everyone must know you might as well go flush your money down the toilet instead of going to buy there.
Under the South African Consumer Protection Act (CPA), consumers have the right to return defective goods within six months of purchase for a refund, replacement, or repair. The CPA also implies that goods must be of good quality, durable, and suitable for their intended purpose. If a defect arises within this period, the consumer can choose their preferred remedy (repair, replacement, or refund).

I purchased a Rockitt headset from Mr Price Cellular at R99 from the Greenacres branch on 26/05/2025, I have been experiencing intermittently that they don't work, sometimes the whole day, in both my phones. I took it to the store on 18/06/2025. The assistant tested it and it didn't work. She tried again and it didn't work. She removed it and retried, then it worked. And because of that she told me, it does work. I told her I can't pay for something that works sometimes and other times not. I told her I wanted to swop it for a different headset. She said unfortuantely Mr Price has a 7day return policy. I said that's nonsense because it means they are selling bad quality products because if it breaks on the 8th day and you can't return it, it means it's ****. She said that's the policy, I will have to wait for the manager. She called the manager and the manager told me she couldn't allow me to exhcnage it.
This is in violation of the consumer protection act as it was never communicated to me that there was a 7-day return policy when I bought it otherwise I would opt not to buy it. And the consumer protection act allows you to return defective goods should they not be working. The assistant who assisted me on the date of sale was Mark, Store Manager is Nobathembu. TAX Inv No: 11046-2-3807. Please advise on next steps. This is not about getting R99 back, it's about the principle of gladly and silently allowing customers to buy ****ty products and then giving bad service when they want to give it back. -- Regards
