Injury in Mr Price Home Store
On the 8th June I fell down an UNMARKED step at Mr Price Home Waterfront. The manager and a staff assisted me and took my name and number. I tore a muscle in my calf and hurt my ankle and in fact I was unable to walk for about 7 days. I hired crutches. I saw a doctor and had to take anti-inflammatories and painkillers and stay off my feet. From what the staff said I was not the first person to have fallen off this step! This was an unmarked step. NO yellow tape etc etc.
The manager of the branch called me and said that did not know what they can do about this and I sent them watts-app messages showing them tape that can be bought from Builders Warehouse. Bright yellow with "Mind the step" written on it in black print and various other choices of the warning sign. They were grateful, said thank you and then said they would send this information to Head Office.
I received a couple of calls from the Manager of the branch one of which was whether I could send all invoices of the costs incurred with this injury and they would in turn send to Head Office (as requested by them).
I was called by the manager a couple of times, just to check on how I was doing.
I waited until I had all the invoices and this Monday I sent the invoices to them and I was an amount of around R1400.
I received this response yesterday "After careful consideration we believe that the shopping environment was not unsafe and hereby offer you a R500 gift card as a gesture of goodwill to offset any expenses incurred."
How insulting!!!!
For one thing if the environment was not unsafe, why then would you need to put up signs asking customers to "Mind the step" after I had fallen!!!! You are covering your tracks Mr Mr Price home because there wasn't anything to warn customers. I wasn't the first person to fall down that step.
The least you could have done was apologise and reimburse me in CASH for my expenses and you would never heard from me again. Really??? A voucher that does even cover the Doctors Bill.
I trust you are well.
