Deposit required on Out of Stock Item

Yesterday myself and my husband went to the Mr. Price Home at Sandton City to buy a baby compactum just to be told they were out of stock. We were advised that they would receive stock within 2 weeks time this was not a problem and we were asked if we wanted to be put on the waiting list which we did. After they took all out details down we were advised that we needed to pay a deposit. I find this totally unacceptable why should we pay a deposit for an item that you guys have run out of stock, the worst case scenario that could happen is we don't end up taking the compactum which you will still be able to sell it to another client as they are high in demand. It' not like we requested it to be custom made. I would like a manager to contact me and advise me when stock is received so that we can come and collect one and only then will full payment be made.
