Mr Don't Care

After dealing with an absolutely inhumane "customer service" representative, I felt I simply had to accept the mission given to me by said robot of a person. That is to ask as many people as I can whether or not it is indeed my fault that the driver "failed" to deliver my order and if it is then right that I should forego both the goods that were purchased and my money. Please, decide for yourself because I am absolutely outraged by how people can treat other people this way. My girlfriend has the app on her phone. After we placed the order, while waiting, she had to attend an online meeting and asked me to keep an ear out for the delivery driver. We've done this many times with success. This time, however, the driver did not bother to get out of his car when he arrived. I know this because I saw him parked in the wrong driveway. GPS struggles to get our location correct. I've found drivers waiting down the road while they think they're "outside". This particular driver just sat in his car, not even bothering to get out to unload the delivery. I assumed he was an Uber waiting for our neighbour, since we have quite a bit of activity on our street and I'd expect a delivery driver to GTFO of the vehicle... Since he was at the wrong door and I walked away, it's difficult to say if he even bothered to ring the doorbell or knock. However, since our address number is clearly visible, simply taking the time to look around would have alerted him to his mistake. This particular driver then decided that he'd fulfilled his directive and simply drove off, claiming that we were not home. I most certainly was home. I opened the door. Once my girlfriend finished with her meeting and noticed her phone, she contacted the driver, who proceeded to tell her to calm down. I heard the conversation, she was calm. Typical **********. She also contacted customer services, who informed her that we had now defaulted our purchase and our money and we would be given 50% service credit as "compensation". Outrageous. The order was for ~R400 but could have easily have been for more. Apparently this service has some how established a system in which a driver only need register his arrival on the app and then he's free to leave at his discretion, however pathetic an attempt that may be, and then they're free to rob the customer, should said customer not be with their phone at the precise moment the driver arrives. Naturally, being outraged by this concept, I decided to contact customer support, being quite fed up with the treatment my girlfriend was receiving. The robotic human on the other end failed to see reason in my explanation regarding how this was a failure on the part of the driver and she just repeated the same scripted nonsense about how I'm at fault somehow for expecting people to be capable of finding an address and ringing a doorbell. "It's in the Terms & Conditions". That's the kind of company this is, one which will reduce a human being to a case of "too bad, so sad. Nothing we can do". I shudder to think how many people have been ****** of their money in this way. I implore everyone not to support a company that fails to realise that R400, meant for groceries, is a big deal to the average person. Are we meant to go hungry now because a driver failed to do his job properly and works for a company that protects themselves when they ***** from us?
