Unsanctioned debit order payment after settlement

My financed vehicle was settled on the 22 March 2016. Today on 1 April, the debit order for the vehicle went off my cheque account as usual. I phone MFC and their response was that the debit orders were already loaded with the bank prior to 22 March 2016. They can refund me, but it will take 7 - 10 working days.

I find this totally unacceptable! Now I have to phone around and make arrangements to get the debit order reversed. When a loan has been settled, the account is closed and all related debit orders need to be cancelled.

If the process of loading debit orders with the banks require it to be 7 days prior of the scheduled payment date, MFC needs to cater for this in the Settlement quote, stating that depending on when the payment is made, what the settlement amount will be. In these tough economic times, people don't have extra cash to service their other debit orders and wait for MFC to give their money back.

Upon suggesting the above to the representative, I was told the bank would then be at risk... I don't know how, if you state this clearly upon settlement request. It is clear that the customer doesn't come first, they would rather take money not owed to them.
