MFC, the blood smelling "sharks"

We all share financial difficulties sometimes, whether it be due to job loss or many other reasons. And of course, when this happens, it is difficult to make your obligations to a creditor, such as MFC.

Of course, it is fully understandable that a company like MFC would do everything in their power to retrieve owing funds. However, it is the manner in which it is done, which one would expect. With a more professional, and HONEST manner.

I am such an unfortunate ower of funds to MFC. With job loss and 8 months of being unemployed in our current economic and political climate, I have been one of those thorns in their side, not able to pay back a set amount owing on a car I received finance for through them a while back. The car has since been repossessed and sold on auction. This was voluntary, even though MFC made no effort in resolving the issue in any other amicable way. Once I said I could not pay for it, they swooped in within a week to reclaim the car, two weeks later it was auctioned off. However, there was still an outstanding amount the auction price did not cover, which I am understandably responsible for. But, again, no job, and no way to pay it back.

Again, MFC, has full right to reclaim this money. I am not arguing that. But please, when you send your countless sms's and emails with your threats, at least keep them honest and in line with South African law.

You cannot send a sheriff without a court order. Some people might be fooled by your scare tactics, but I am not. This process takes months my dear friends at MFC, and your pitiful lawyers. There is no way a sheriff can appear at your place at work or home, the very next day a payment has not been made. And even if by some miracle, they did get a court order, this would have to be presented to the accused, a court date set and a hearing concluded. Only then can a sheriff come knocking (with a warrant, which also takes more than just a day to get, dear MFC), in order to come and take your things to make up for the shortfall.

So please, anyone in a similar position. Don't be bul**** and believe these fantastical sms's from MFC. They are purely there to scare you and make you stress. You have time. a lot of time to get your affairs in a row. I am not saying, do not pay them, but I am saying you have time to work on getting yourself out of this hole and pay these "sharks" back. They prey on the weak and misinformed. Don't fall for their lies, when you receive there little "scary" emails or sms's. But when you do start receiving them, at least start making plans to pay them back. As they say, once a shark smells blood, it goes into a frenzy, like MFC does with non payment.
