HARRASSMENT BY COLLECTION AGENTS DESPITE QUERY ON ACCOUNT

HARRASSMENT BY COLLECTION AGENTS DESPITE QUERY ON ACCOUNT

During the course of June 2019 I received a call from a Collection Agent of MFC noting that I was more than R 6 000 in arrears on my vehicle finance account.

I was shocked but nonetheless undertook that if the amount was in fact due that I would settle the same by the end of the same month.

I obtained a copy of the transactions listing from them and while running through the same I noticed a number of legal notice and collection charges debited to the account in the amount of R 1 117.72.

This did not make sense to me as even though I had been retrenched in March 2017 and only had contract employment briefly from September 2017 - December 2017 before being permanently employed in April 2018 on a part time basis and full time in July 2018, I had always managed to catch up when I did fall behind and if I did it was never for a period in excess of two months before I was able to catch up. Post permanent employment I had even been paying more than the minimum installment to make sure that I was ahead.

I reviewed the account and noted that if it weren't for their collection charges that I was in fact still in advance.

I submitted my analysis together with all my notes to their offices and requested that they please respond via email to me so that we could keep track of the correspondence.

In this period from June 2019 to the middle of July 2019 I have received at least four phone calls a day from different agents of MFC on my cell phone. My employer has now also had to field calls from the agents of MFC despite my request that all correspondence be sent via email.

They continue to harass me and now my employer without dealing with my query. This is not only unprofessional but highly irregular.

They appear incapable of making simple notes on their system to say that the account is subject to a query and that the same needs to be resolved before collection activities should resume, if any.

The actions of MFC have not only become harassment but have also placed my employment under significant strain.

Dear Sir / Madam

Thank you for your response.

I just want clarity and to not be made to feel like I have done something wrong simply by asking a question or querying my account.

If we engage fairly and respect each other then I am sure we can resolve the matter quickly without all of the unnecessary frustration on both our parts.

Kind regards
Matthew Lucas
