Disgusting Service

On the 29th of July 2016 I app**** to ChocNed a division of MFC in order to help me finance a private to private car deal. The initial process went well; the staff were friendly and efficient.

On the 18th of August 2016 I was contacted by Choc Ned and informed that all of the documentation was complete and that I could go to my nearest NedBank branch (Centurion Life Style) in order to sign the final contract. I went immediately, on the same day and signed my contract.

On the 22 of August 2016, when the seller contacted ChocNed to find out when he could expect payment they told him I had not yet signed the contract.

I was subsequently contacted by ChocNed, asking me to please advise them as to when I would be going to Nedbank to sign the contract. This after I told them on the 18th that I would be going into the branch on that same day between 2pm and 3 pm, hence the documentation was ready and waiting for me.

ChocNed was unable to track down the NedBank branch consultant who assisted me, nor the contract that I had signed. I had to scan and submit my own signed copy of the contract which I had signed in the bank.

On the 25th of August 2016 ChocNed contacted me again and asked me to resubmit my proof of address in order for them to complete the licencing of my car. I no longer had the one that I used when signing the contract as I had handed it in to NedBank when signing my contract. Therefore, I submitted a new proof of address (also a Telkom account) and sent through a signed and police certified affidavit from my husband stating that I live with him, due to the proof of address being in his name, and me not having any accounts that come to our address.

Please note that this is exactly the same affidavit and account(Also a Telkom account) that was accepted and used for the whole financing process.

ChocNed then advised me that this was not acceptable and that I had to provide them with an account in my name as proof of address. Due to the fact that I did not have such proof, I then asked them to refund me the R1500 that was included in my financing agreement for Licencing and Registration of the car so that I could go and arrange the licence and Registration myself. I was instructed to first go and complete the licencing process and send through a copy of the new licence discs and I would be refunded.

I completed the licencing and registration privately using exactly the same proof of address and affidavit that was sent through to ChocNed!

I submitted the discs and banking details only to receive notification that ChocNed would only be refunding R96 of the R1500.

When I asked ChocNed to kindly explain where the other R1404 went, they told me they have to pay their agents and that If I had submitted the correct documentation I would not have had to go through all this.

The point is that I had no other documentation and they were aware of this. Also, only after the whole financing agreement had been finalised and the seller had been paid in full did they inform me that the proof of address and affidavit was apparently not acceptable by the licencing department, however when I went to licence and register the vehicle myself, using the same documentation, it was accepted.

So my question is, for exactly which service were their “agents” paid? How can their agents have to be paid for a service that was never rendered?

I also no not understand how they can charge a facilitation fee of R3600 (which is apparently their admin fee) and R1500 for Licencing and Registration then have me see to the licencing and registration in my own capacity, and still have the audacity to reimburse me a measly R96!

This does not even cover the cost of the licencing, which I did on my own because of their incompetence and unwillingness to offer a solution to my situation.

I will never recommend this company or process to anyone. I am totally disappointed in my experience.
