Dear Mr Moodley,

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your experience and appreciate the opportunity to clarify.
The CT scan performed on 18.02.2026 was done following an after-hours referral from the Emergency Department, where the priority is to ensure that urgent clinical care is not delayed. In these circumstances, pre-authorisation is not always possible prior to the procedure.
As part of our standard process, patients are required to complete and sign a patient information and consent form, which includes acknowledgment of personal liability should the medical aid not cover the procedure.
Following the scan, our team submitted an authorisation request to your medical aid. This was declined due to your plan not including out-of-hospital specialised radiology benefits.

In addition, the account did not meet the criteria for Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs), and the scheme therefore confirmed that the cost remains for your account.
We can confirm that our accounts team has engaged with you extensively since the procedure, including reviewing the account, assisting with a PMB motivation review, verifying ICD-10 coding, and liaising with the Emergency Unit on your behalf.
Payment arrangements were also requested and accommodated.

Should any supporting documentation be required for this process, we will gladly assist.

hi thanks for the response, when all is said and done, what what lacking was transparency on the cost involved before the treatment was done. the signing of the consent form safeguards Morton and partners but not the patient. the question still remains why did the technician not disclose on the consent form the approximate cost invilved. at no point was the rand

value included on the consent form. so if the procedure cosost R 120000. must the patient now sell his house to pay a medical bill. also in closing the catscan was not urgent as revealed by the result and could have waited till the next day, instead Morton and partners seen an opportunity to make money from unsuspecting patients. please man be more honest by declaring the amount due. I am not happy with the way it was handled and about paying this account.

Dear Mr Moodley,

Thank you for your further comments. We do understand your concerns regarding cost transparency and appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective.
As mentioned previously, the scan was performed following an after-hours referral from the Emergency Department, based on the treating doctor’s clinical assessment at the time.
In these situations, our role is to carry out the requested investigation without delay, and we do not determine the urgency of the scan ourselves.

With regard to costs, we acknowledge your point. In an emergency, after-hours environment, it is unfortunately not always possible to provide an accurate upfront estimate, as costs can vary depending on clinical requirements and individual medical aid benefits.
Our process is therefore to obtain consent and acknowledgment of potential personal liability, which is standard practice.

We would also like to highlight that we have made every effort to assist you throughout this process.
This has included engaging with your medical aid on your behalf, assisting with a PMB review, verifying clinical coding, liaising with the Emergency Unit, and accommodating a payment arrangement at your request.

While the outcome remains unchanged, your feedback regarding clearer communication around potential costs is noted and will be reviewed internally.
