Predatory and misleading marketing from Mondo Mobile

I recently discovered I'd been misled by Mondo Mobile. I was called in december 2016 and offered 5G of TOP UP Data for a 2 year contract. Sounded good, I use a lot of data. I would also get a free mobile router. Cool! Later on in the call the supervisor came on and said I would also get a new sim. OK fine, I dont need one but I guess its good to have a spare. The next few months my phone bill was higher, but I couldnt access December, January or February's itemised bills online. In April, the bill was still high, and now I investigated and found that there was a new cell-phone number that had been added to my account, and that I was being charged R199 pm. After phoning Vodacom, it transpired that the 5G of TOP UP data was being loaded onto the new number, who's sim was still sitting unwrapped in the box, and not onto my own number which was what I had been led to believe.

I logged a complaint on 5 April. No one got back to me until I phoned Vodacom on 2 May, and was transferred through to Mondo Mobile. I was told the cooling off period was over after 15 days, and that, if I wanted to get out of the contract, I should phone Vodacom cancellations. Vodacom cancellations told me it would cost R3690.70 to get out of the contract.

Unwilling to pay this when I maintain i was misled, I asked for a copy of my contract. Vodacom did not have it, and transferred me back to Mondo Mobile. (Sweet woman called Melisha just doing her job; people have to earn a living but I'm sure she hates being forced to perpetrate consumer injustice on a daily basis). Melisha said there is no written contract, that the call recording between myself and the sales consultant is the contract (!!!!!) She also gave me feedback on the investigation. She summarised the conversation as it was recorded. In my opinion, her summary indicates that I was clearly misled and manipulated. Of course, their investigations department had found nothing untoward. Their job is to find ways to ensure that clients CAN NOT get out of their contracts, not to assist the client.

She said I could go into the Vodacom store, and ask for the recording of the conversation to be emailed to the consultant and that I could listen to it instore. I asked why it could not be emailed to me directly, as I am the customer, and she said that is Vodacom's policy.

From what I can see on Hello Peter, I am not the only one to be duped like this!
