Think I need a refund

In July last year we joined Momentum after being with Discovery for many years. We also joined Multiply and took our 3 gym contracts with Virgin Active - one of them for my husband. In November my husband had to have a neck fusion and was advised by neurosurgeon to not do anything sportswise, heavy lifting etc for 3 months and no strenuous activity for 9 months. In January we moved to Jhb, so we had to change our gym memberships to new gyms in our area. On a phone call to Momentum around the 12th of January I called to do the change, and then when the service agent told me the new gym installments, I spoke about my hsuband, stating that it seemed unfair that my husband had to pay for gym membership when he couldnt do anything because of the op. I asked if something could be done.... so I was told to send proof of the op!!

I couldnt believe it - i mean why must I send proof of the op if they paid for it??

Anyway - our broker did on the 13th jan and we heard nothing more.

i never thought that cancelling virgin active membership could have been an option until today.

It has been painful paying every month R560 for nothing.

My husband is still recovering and cant do proper excersise or sport or anything.......... so i thought lets see what the costs would be in cancelling the virgin active membership.

So I sent message through this morning..... and lo and behold we can and have cancelled the membership for my husband with no costs incurred. Thats absolutely incredible!!!!!!!!

But if this was possible, why couldnt the agent who I spoke to in January have told me this. We could have saved almost R3600 in gym fees!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????

So I really think Momentum... you owe me a refund!!!!!

Dear Ms Probert,

Suresh Moodley from our Multiply department advised that he has made contact with you regarding this matter.

Our records indicate that your partner did make use of the gym benefit between January 2017 and May 2017 and we are thus liable for these gym fees to Virgin Active.

Unfortunately we are not in a position to accommodate your request for a refund .

Kind regards,

N D'Arch
