The Human Cost Behind The Evidence
Since February 2024, our family has been living in a state of limbo. My wife, once active and independent, has undergone four operations and seen multiple pain specialists—none of whom have been able to offer meaningful relief. Despite some professionals advising that she is unfit for work, the only response we continue to receive is a request for “objective evidence.”
But what does that evidence look like when someone’s life has been turned upside down?
She cannot use her hands at even half their capacity. Simple tasks—opening a milk carton, turning a doorknob, helping our children—have become painful, sometimes impossible. She sleeps with her hands raised above her head, hoping to ease the relentless pain. Nights are restless. Days are filled with frustration and helplessness.
Our family has taken strain on every level—financially, emotionally, physically. We sold both of our vehicles, which were nearly paid off, just to relieve some of the financial pressure. We now rely on a second-hand car that demands weekly maintenance. Recently, due to her limited hand strength, she was unable to fully engage the handbrake. The car rolled into another vehicle and came to a stop only when it hit the carport. That moment wasn’t just an accident—it was a reflection of how vulnerable and unsupported we’ve become.
As a husband and father, it is painful to watch how she struggles to perform even the most basic tasks. Watch how she tries to be a mother, a wife, a human being—while her body refuses to cooperate.
This is how you rob someone of their dignity:
When the person responsible for making decisions is programmed to deliver scripted responses.
When the human element is stripped away from a situation that demands empathy and understanding.
We are not just asking for help—we are asking to be seen. To be heard. To be treated as people whose lives have been upended by circumstances beyond our control.
