Stay away from Momentum/MMI Holdings. Their reputation in the media is confirmation!

My husband suffered a stroke and was dismissed by MMI Holdings due to ill health. We app**** for the withdrawal benefit with Momentum and I advised them on several occasions that the reason for withdrawal is due to ill health. On the 12th of November 2018 I requested progress, the amount payable and also attached Power of Attorney . On the 13th of October I received a response “We are not able to provide the details to a 3rd party only the member”. On the 15th of October I received and email requesting “Our legal department has requested the following information: What information does the spouse require? For what purpose? Why can’t the information be given directly to the member? There’s mention of ill-health in the email below. Is the member ill and cannot manage his affairs? Is the spouse handling the member’s affairs?” This information was in the Power of Attorney. When I threatened to lodge a complaint on Hello Peter, I got a reply within minutes. On the 20th of November I requested the status of the claim and was advised “The claim is busy disinvesting and due to the type of claim ( ill health) , we had to change the claim to be processed manually by applying for tax and then to process the payments. Application for the directive should be by Friday or Monday for the latest. We will advise on Friday where we are in the process.” I received no response on Friday and requested the feedback on Monday the 26th of November and Momentum responded “The claim needs to go to SARS for the tax directive. We are busy investigating how to apply for tax due to ill health and should have an answer tomorrow. I will email you as soon as I have clarity from our systems.” How pathetic is this??? Have they never done a withdrawal due to ill health or do they con people by applying for the incorrect tax directives? This happened with the employer MMI Holdings as well, where they’ve app**** for the Incorrect tax directive. They have also now after a month not app**** for the correct tax directive. Momentum/MMI Holdings is all over the media with regards to their appalling client service but they are also pathetic when it comes to employment. They use their employees till they become sick and then just throw them to the side when you become disabled. We are also struggling with the disability cover which was also declined and had to appoint lawyers to intervene. The matter was also referred to the Ombudsman for Long term insurance which was of no use and a lot of time wasted in the interim. Stay away from this company with regards to Insurance cover and employment.
