PENSION MONIES LOST
I recently turned 55 and had a Retirement annuity policy with Momentum. Because it had done nothing but lose value over the years,I decided that Iwould disinvest the policy at maturity. I am still working but wanted the funds for personal reasons. I forwarded my document's to them for processing. On March 8 2020,my value was R193 000. I knew that it may not be that amount I got out as the markets were in turmoil because of Covid 19. When the time came for payout,I received R63000. I certainly was not expecting such a big drop. When I queried this I was given the reasonabout Covid and no further explanation. I knew it would drop but not by this amount. My gripe is the loss, however, 2 weeks before my maturity date, why did Momentum not contact me to let me know how much it had dropped by. I would not have taken the money then and would have kept it there in the hope that it would changed and I would at least regain some of my precious pension money. Surely,as an insurance company,it is their duty to advise me that they did not think it was an appropriate time to disinvest. If I had decided to still take the money, then that would be my loss but not a single person contacted me to advise against it. I was also met with such dis-interest when I questioned this. I have not had a broker on this policy in more than 13years. Surely this would be a time to hand me over to a broker,if they were not prepared to contact me. I do understand how the markets work but at least contact me in the 2 weeks it took for me to lose R133000 on my pension money. This equates to much more than half
