Nathan and Denise Ganas Insurance Claim

Media reports on your decision to decline payment of a life policy after the death of the above person refers.

You have defended your decision on various legal grounds, which are factually correct but absolutely heartless. The fact that the man had high blood pressure had nothing to do with him dying in a hijacking. He would have died notwithstanding but you choose to use a technicality to deny his family the cover they've been paying you for.

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Be assured that I will immediately cancel my own life policy with you and will do all I can to encourage others to follow suit.

Thank you for taking the time to inform us of your concerns.

We would like to provide you with additional information which we believe might influence your decision. We value your business and urge you to fami****ise yourself with the facts in the media statement and the Questions and Answers document, which will be e-mailed to you.

Insurers have a duty to protect existing clients who acted in good faith. Even though we sympathise with the loss that a family suffers when a loved one dies, had we paid the claim that is currently highlighted in the media, we would indirectly encourage the practice of non-disclosure.  This, in turn, would have a negative financial impact on existing and future clients.

If you wish to proceed with your decision to cancel your cover, please discuss the impact of this decision with your financial adviser, to make an informed decision about the impact on your financial planning.

Kind regards
Charmaine
