MOMENTUM - never be honest with them
<p>I am VERY VERY disappointed in Momemtum. I always thought they are the best insurance company. I have life cover and an Income protector with them. I am a contractor and single therefor do I need the income protector. I have been 100% honest with them from day 1, I do suffer from depression but it was always mild. I have never claimed for anything from them. Due to the fact that I have been honest with them ALL mental wellbeing has been excluded……I have now been diagnosed with Bipolar and therefor need some time off to get use to the medication and get back on track. A senior staff member from Momentum told my financial advisor that I don’t have a claim because it was excluded BUT if I wasn’t honest with them from the beginning they would have considered a temporary disability claim……..Also if I commit suicide I am covered. So they would rather have their clients die than help them through a rough patch.</p> <p>I have received a list of critical illnesses that they cover, which “brain illness” is covered. According to my doctors Bipolar is a brain illness?</p> <p>The medication takes a while to get into one’s system and it does affect me when I am driving, which I don’t have a choice because I have no cover from an insurance that I thought I had. So one of these days they will have to pay out my life insurance due to the fact that I am actually a danger on the road because I was honest…….</p>

Dear Ms Ferreira,
I refer to our telephone discussion. Your policy contract will only pay out if you meet the qualifying criteria for one of the conditions defined in your policy contract. Your contract specifies 41 conditions / categories under the Income Protector, Temporary Income Protector and 15 categories under the Comprehensive Critical Illness benefits that Momentum do cover. Unfortunately bipolar disorder is not one of the covered conditions under any of the benefits on this policy. We are therefore not in a position to admit a claim for bipolar disorder.
I must stress that our reason for declining a claim for bipolar is not due to the exclusion on your policy for depression - even if there was no exclusion for depression on your policy, Momentum would still not be in a position to admit the claim, as bipolar is not a covered condition under this policy.
I am sorry that I am not able to give you a more favourable response.

I still feel that our money is good enough to take every month BUT when I comes to claims the Insurance Company will always find a loop hole to NOT pay.
