Irresponsible Momentum want me to contravene my banking terms and conditions
In order to maintain my status on Momentum Multiply, Momentum is requiring me to enter my fnb online banking details and password into their app, ostensibly in order to manage my financial health better. I queried this, since not sharing these details with anyone is about the most obvious first step to avoiding online banking *****. Momentum sent me a form letter stating, inter alia, that they comp**** with POPI (thanks for obeying regulations saying you shouldn’t give my online banking password to other people! So generous!) and that I should consult with my bank as to whether giving away my online banking login complies with their ts and cs. Sure enough... it doesn’t.
So this is my question, Momentum: Surely contravening my contracted terms and conditions with my bank, and in so doing potentially infringing any recourse I have to the bank if something goes wrong, does not improve my financial health? In addition, I imagine Liberty thought their IT security was pretty hot until it was hacked – how about yours? Why is yours better than theirs? And why should I take the risk if you’re not willing to indemnify me, which you’re not?
By all means provide your app to your clients, but please don’t prejudice me if I choose to be financially cautious.
