Will not replace with equivalent
My audio amplifier was damaged by lightning, which is covered by my household content insurance. I contacted Alexander Forbes to assess the damage. Report indicated it could not be fixed and it would be replaced. The item cost originally was over R35000 yet they seek to replace with a R9000 new piece of equipment. The consultant has requested that I obtain quotes as she stated this is a very rare piece of equipment. All quotes I provided in terms of specification level were above the value they were looking to replace with including the quote from the supplier that Alexander Forbes provided me with.

The item they want to replace my damaged unit with has less connection points for my current equipment and does not perform the same functions. Even thou they had asked me to supply them with the equivalent replacement in today's terms they refuse to do like for like. They had stated to me electronics depreciate over time but my understanding is that my items are at replacement value not depreciated. Also if things depreciate should my premium also not reduce. This claim has taken over 3 weeks with no resolution. I will be taking this to the insurance ombud. This is not right.
