Looking for every excuse not to pay a claim
NEVER INSURE WITH MOMENTUM- I lodged a claim on 11 November 2020 with my insurance firm (Momentum) as a lightning/surge protection issue after thunderstorms we experienced within Pretoria on 10 November 2020. Momentum didn’t respond to my claim until i contacted the call centre on 13 November 2020 following up on why i haven’t heard anything from them. The Monday thereafter a company Appliance Care contracted by the insurance firm collected the machine to assess. They eventually came back with a report which i attached to the email, on 18 November 2020 i received an email from a gentlemen that my claim has been repudiated as the cause were wear and tear. I explained to the gentlemen that i kindly disagree with the report issued by his firm and i contacted my Brokers for assistance. They advised me to get a report from a service provider of my own. I approached Nasdorp Centre Computers and his report indicated that the device was struck by lightning and that the components are irreplaceable and the machine have to be replaced. For almost two months i havent heard a word from Momentum regarding my claim after my objection to their verdict. The machine remained at Nasdorp Centre Computers during the period i waited on feedback. Eventually i lodged a complaint with the CEO Brand Pretorius and his Assistant Linda van Noordwyk regarding my claim that doesn’t get finalised and Linda referred the matter to Colette Swanepoel. Colette Swanepoel contacted me and we discussed the claim, she then contacted the owner of Nasdorp Centre Computers to find out what tests he completed on the computer and he explained the process and tests to Colette. Colette then contacted me and explained to me that she spoke to Nasdorp’s owner and he completed the same tests as Appliance Care did. I asked her what is the verdict then regarding my claim and she went to discuss the matter with her senior teams. She then contacted me and told me that they want another opinion before they finalise the matter. I was hesitant to comply as the case has already been stretched out 2 months without any assistance. Eventually i told Colette that if they get a report i will get another report as well. I agreed to them sending another firm and they collected the machine from Nasdorp Centre Computers. That last report was then completed by Silvex Consulendo Pty LTD, attached to email. This firm not only just focused on the age of the machine, but they issued no concrete information but suggesting that it’s wear and tear. The focused on parts that are not correctly inserted into the product, but the machine was at two different firms assessing the machine, they removed the drives etc to complete their tests. All 3 firms came to the same conclusion that the machine doesn’t switch on. Sylvex also concluded like Nasdorp Centre Computers that the machine is not feasible to repair as part become obsolete after 5 years. The machine was working perfectly until the storms we experienced in Pretoria and now they just want to classify the machine as wear and tear. I worked for Core Computer Business for almost 5 years between 2012 - 2017, they import all Apple products to South Africa and i highly disagree with the statement on Sylvex report that indicated that the machine is already 3 years older than what they should last. An average MacBook can last you for 8 years before software become obsolete for the system, and then the machine will still run better than any other Windows machine i have ever had. On 07 January 2021 Colette notified me that Momentum will remain with their original verdict. I object to this as i have also issued a report which are simply being discarded.
