Incompetence with poor service

Claim Number: 650/593665, Insured: Mr P Moodley, Our Ref: ********** , Claim Handler: Busi Mahlangu

I had a storm damage on the 25th July 2017. However my claim for the building structure has still not been resolved to date.

My claim was assigned to Busi Mahlangu who does not respond to her email. I have tried to contact her on numerous occasions with very little to no response. I think Alexander Forbes have some *********** staff working for them.

After the very long delay I was sent a AOL only on the 2nd November 2016 which reflected the value of my building structure as R ********** .55. I then requested Busi to provide me with the breakdown as how they had arrived at this figure. After sending her numerous mail and telephone calls with no response. On the 12th Jan 2017 contacted Doris Mahomed who I was told is the manager of Busi. I then followed up with mails to her. I must admit that Doris was more helpful where she was able to obtain the breakdown as to how the value of the structure was made up of. After the long delay in compiling the breakdown and to my surprise there were other items added to the cost to inflate it so as to reduce my claim. Is this the company policy to try and avoid paying a claim by trying to inflate the cost of the building so as to reduce the amount paid to your client? Please note that I did also submit a copy of municipal rates assessment form to Busi, which was R280 000 I do agree that it is normally lower, however not more than 5 times the amount. Thus I would agree that R102900 would be a reasonable value.

There were items such as demolition and professional fees added to the cost of the building.

See extract of mails then sent to Doris

Thanks for the info.
“I would like to point out points on the table below :-
· When my policy was taken out, the only question asked of me, was what was the replacement cost of the building?
· There was no mention of demolition and professional fees, this is not a cost replacement, thus this should be removed of the calculation. “

“Hi Doris

Hope you are well, just a follow up on the conversation that we had on 12th Jan.

As discussed the first Policy Schedule, attached that I received indicated that my building was insured for R1 029 000 ( See Below). The second one I received was when I Requested that my Mercedes Benz C180K be added to my policy with effect from the 1st Aug 2016, However for some unknown reason I now notice that they had reduced the cover on my building to R900 000. It seems that the person that did the new schedule could have done so in error as the value of the building normally appreciate and the motor vehicle depreciate in value.

In view of the long delay in settling this claim ( since July 2016) and an error in the drawing up of the schedule, I hereby request that this claim be settled immediately without any more delays. “
