Car Accident Nightmare: Momentum Insure’s Unprofessional Handling and Stressful ExperienceCar Accident Nightmare: Momentum Insure’s Unprofessional Handling and Stressful Experience
In 2022, I was involved in a car accident. I had stopped at a traffic light, and when it turned green, I proceeded—only to be hit on the right-hand side by another driver. That driver, insured by MiWay, claimed I had misread the light, which was absolutely not the case.
My car was assessed by a company where the other driver worked—by his direct report, no less. I had specifically requested that my car not go to Renew-it, yet in 2023, it was booked into Renew-it anyway. That was just the beginning of a nightmare. After three months of endless back-and-forth, I finally got my car back. My car rental from Momentum Insure only covered 21 days, leaving me to cover my own transport costs for the rest of the time—even though my workplace is a significant distance from home.
When I finally got my car back, a part was still outstanding. Then, in December 2023, my mother-in-law—whom I have never lived with—received a summons on my behalf at her residential address. I escalated this to Momentum because, back in 2022, Zandi had assured me that if I received a summons from MiWay or the other driver, Momentum would handle it.
I then had to deal with Momentum’s legal department and their attorneys. The entire process has been unprofessional—mostly email-based, with only a few sporadic phone calls asking whether I’d prefer to settle or go to court. I always indicated that I preferred to settle. To be honest, I don’t even care about recovering my excess—I just want this resolved.
To make matters worse, when I first received the summons, Momentum couldn’t even find my records because they were in the middle of a system migration. As an Alexander Forbes client, my details were lost in their poor administration—which I believe is 90% of the problem here.
Fast forward to 2024: I finally hear from the lawyer again, asking for the summons and proof that the vehicle is in my name. Then… silence. The next thing I receive is an email—on Friday the 13th of December 2024, no less—telling me I need to be in Germiston court on March 26, 2025. That’s it. No updates, no communication from the Momentum legal team, and no response to my repeated requests for clarity on whether there was any attempt to settle.
This has been the most unprofessional experience I have ever had. I work in a high-pressure environment, and we’re in peak season with major campaigns and strategic work. I have to log leave well in advance, yet Momentum has zero regard for the stress they’re putting on their client.
I just want this nightmare to be over. Momentum’s handling of this has been beyond unacceptable.
