Alexander Forbes HouseHold Contents Insuarance is ***** !!!
I have household contents insurance with Alexander Forbes. On the 9th of October a storm hit Joburg and my Complex was a casualty. My roof was badly damaged . The bedroom roof, being the worst affected, completely caved in and the ceiling and tiles fell on my bed. Subsequently the entire home was flooded and it took quite a while to get the water out of the whole house. A power surge also took place and
I put in a claim for the the most affected items. And here is where the problem starts:
- The assessor only showed up 4 days later after I called and asked where they were. I had to evacuate the unit as early as possible as this place was considered a safety hazard, but there was no sense of urgency with the whole thing.
- The assessor sent made me feel like I was an idiot for claiming for clothes. In what world do you dry underwear damaged by water and return to someone?
- A company called DRY Force was sent in to collect and dry the contents. Only on the following Tuesday did they collect the items (not an issue however this gives rise to another problem)
- Dry Force took their time to do the work . I have to call and check up on them on the progress of my items. They don't respond to emails. 3 requests to check on my contents have been ignored but they are very quick to want to return my contents to me. Secondly my couch was scratched in the process and they are refusing to accept the damage. A request for a list of all items damaged has been ignored. Last week, after seemingly managing to get a booking to view my contents they tell me I can't view them as they have already sent a final report to insurance - without my knowledge- without even allowing me to see my contents.
- Dry Force - the super magical company that they are - have dried the electronics that were sitting in water for 8 days and have magically declared them safe to use. WOW. The best part - NO ONE WANTS TO PROVIDE A SAFETY AND LIABILITY CERTIFICATE. Apparently if the appliance malfunctions I should put in another claim. If a house burns down because of water damaged appliances and someone gets hurt in the process what claim should be put in? In what world are you so heartless to give someone dried electronics?
This is just a tip of the frustration I have with you.
Please keep everything you took from me inc all the contents because evidently you are hell bent on saving money and could care less about your customer. A month has gone by with me living off donated clothes and sleeping on the floor - I surely can survive without what you took until I rebuild my life.
Put a disclaimer on your household contents to say that should you be hit by a storm we will dry everything, damage more stuff in the process and return back to you. I would have rather saved my money than pay for insurance that has disrespected me, treated me like trash and tries to coerce me into taking back damaged stuff.
TRASH!!!
