70 year old Wear & Tear my FOOT
This is the worst experience I've had with momentum EVER and would not recommend them to anyone... Nevermind the endless calls, no feedback etc...
I had an electrical outage at my home on Friday, 27 January 2023. We were away for the weekend and only realised on our return on Sunday, 29 January 2023 that our electricity has been off for 2 days already. My neighbors all had electricity so it was not loadshedding and some of the stuff in my refrigerator was spoilt already.
I immediately phoned the municipality electricity division to come and have a look as the DB board/meter was completely dead meaning no power between the municipal pole and my DB board/meter. I received a reference number and they eventually came to look on Monday evening (30 January) after 10pm. They tested the wires at the municipal pole and everything was in order, i.e. there was power from their pole to my house. They advised that it could be the roof box that connects the power from the pole to the DB board/meter.
I then phoned momentum first thing on Tuesday and was advised someone would come and have a look as soon as possible. An electrician eventually arrived around 9pm on Wednesday, 01 February, but by this time all the items in my refrigerator went off. Most of the meats and perishables that we bought 25, 26 and 27 January was spoilt including my insulin (I'm diabetic). These items were discarded with the ******* collection on the morning of Wednesday, 01 February. Due to no power my swimming pool was also unable to run and turned green. The initial agent I spoke to advised that I can include the refrigerator items lost in the claim and that he will speak to his manager regarding the swimming pool. Still waiting for feedback from that one!!!!
After requesting feedback on numerous occasions I was just told that the electricity breakdown is not covered due to "wear & tear"???
Gradual deterioration/wear and tear - It is your responsibility to take necessary precautions to avoid damages which occur over a period of time, failure to do so may result in you not being covered in the event of a claim.
HOW DO YOU TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID DAMAGES ON A ROOF ELECTRICITY BOX THAT IS 70 YEARS OLD???
I'm getting legal advice and lodging a complaint with the Insurance Ombudsman!!!
