WORST MEDICAL AID, ONLY MONEY COUNT, NOT YOUR MEDICAL CONDITION OR CONTRIBUTIONS

My 95 year old grandmother was admitted to George Mediclinic from her retirement home on 13 May 2021 with contractures of both knees and pressure sores on the heels of both feet, which the retirement home could no longer take care of. She needed specific care as gangrene was also involved. She was admitted for wound care and Mediclinic and her doctor took wonderful care of her. The doctor advised that long term care in hospital will be too costly and that a hospice/sub-acute option will be better for the next stage. He submitted the recommendation and Groenkloof Sub-Acute Hospital had bed availability. Estelle Stander from Groenkloof went out of her way more than once to submit documents to Momentum Health to explain why my grandmother need care at Groenkloof. My grandmother is on the Extender plan with at least R55 000 availability for medical rehabilitation, private nursing, Hospice and step-down facilities. Sachive Dhanpal on behalf of Momentum Health declined the application, more than once. Their medical team's response was : "Please note the request has been reviewed by many clinical people and a team leader and it will remain declined. We will allow out of hospital wound care, we need the tariff codes to create an authorisation. Step-down declined as we don’t cover frail care" Step-down and frailcare is two different things, how do you use that in one sentence while their own website states that they cover Step-down? It was because Frail care was no longer enough, that she was admitted. She is in need of specific continued care that is not enough on an out of hospital basis to the reirement home. I asked for clarification on this and to this day have not received an answer back. Why is the R55 000 not available for this? My grandmother was released today and is still in no fit condition for private transport. Kindness and humane treatment is still not part of Momentum Health's policy. The hospital requested an ambulance transfer to the retirement home. Declined. How do you justify their treatment of this case and maybe even many others? To me it seems like a decision that my grandmother is no longer "worth" their money despite years and years contributing to this medical aid. This is despicable to say the least.
