Moral of The Story spend more of your medical aids Money

My son broke his leg 30th Dec so we rushed him to Hillcrest Hospital. There I had to pay Casualty fee of R1360. Doc on call was not on medical aid rates but had to be the one. My son was admitted overnight. Doc came to see him next morning and advised could only operate few days later once swelling went down. We were asked if we would like to stay till op or go home. Thinking we were doing the right thing for our medical aid and pockets we left and came back only to have to pay a Co payment. We now find out we owe another Co payment for day he was admitted and that we should have changed doctors in order for medical aid to cover fully as it wasn't considered emergency. It has taken 2 weeks for the 1st hospital bill to reflect and 2nd one which was submitted same time by hospital and by myself twice hasnt yet. I am 4500 down as I cannot submit to gap till all the claims reflect. My son will be going back to hospital to remove pins and cast so I will need to pay another R1500 Co payment.

I'm honestly just so disgusted as it seems medical aids way of doing things enforces people to spend more. Had we stayed in hospital we would not have had 2 Co payments. Also ridiculous how hospitals only use doctors who charge 300% medical aid rates.

Our whole system is just flawed and in this case just highlighting Momentum. I have little faith that any others would be any better but at this point am really thinking of re evaluating our medical aid and thinking of changing.
