After giving birth a mother doesnt need extra added stress of exorbitant medical bills. This is why we pay huge medical aid tariffs and in my case an entire company of over 200 employees paying these tariffs to Momentum. However after this experience I will make sure this story is taken into account when the company medical aid review process takes place. Now I fully understand providers have different rates and there are approved providers on the scheme. I was fully aware that there may be a shortfall should I use a different provider not on the list and that is why I have gap cover. My question is how is it that a Medical aid can only pay 20% of a gynae's delivery fees and 30% of the anaesthetist fees.I WANT TO KNOW FROM MOMENTUM WHICH GYNAE AT PRIVATE HOSPITAL CHARGES R5100 FOR AN APPROVED CAESAREAN!!!!!! AND WHICH ANAESTHETIST CHARGES R2200. Yes ladies you heard correctly, Momentum paid a combined amount of approx R7300 of an approximate R30 000 bill and when queried their excuse is that the providers charge way over medical aid rates. I have never heard of such ******* in my entire life and I will do the research as to which private hospital gynaes charge R5100 for a caesar and where on earth you can find a private Anaesthetist for R2200!! So before joining momentum if you are planning on having a baby I urge you to think twice. The bills will keep rolling in while you get no sleep!
