MOMENTUM INGWE MEDICAL AID NOT ACCEPTING S.A. UNISA STUDENTS
I was looking for a medical aid for daughter as she is a student and is unable to afford the high medical aid rates. It was recommended we try Ingwe a platform for students through Momentum. We filled in all the paperwork and sent it through to them. A confirmation was sent to us to confirm she was on the medical aid. When we checked the confirmation she was billed for 4 times the amount. As a student paying for her studies she works part-time i.e. babysitting, umpiring, coaching etc. They penalise her because she is working part-time to pay for her studies. She stays at home with me as she cannot afford to live on her own. Some months she earns R4500, others R3000 and sometimes nothing. Whatever she earns pays fo her studies. Its all dependant on how often she works in the holidays, evenings or part-time during the day. I understand if a student who is working full-time and receives a fixed salary, penalize them. When I questioned the bill - Momentum come back to say they don't accept Unisa students. Why did they not give me this information in the beginning? Momentum happy to deduct the astronomical fee off my account and then tell me I must wait until the 10th before they can reverse it. I reversed it myself. I have a policy with Momentum which only allows dependants to be on until they are 21 - she turns 21 in September 2018, hence I could not afford the full adult medical fees for her. Ingwe looked like the perfect medical aid for her. Disappointing to say the least! PS I did send through confirmation from Unisa that she studying at their institution (7 subjects in total). Clearly only students from the elite Universities are considered for this medical aid. Students who are unable to afford these fees and work part-time to pay their own fees through an insitution which is affordable are not considered for this medical aid! Their slogan : "No 1 Medical Aid Choice for students!" I don't agree
