Momentum Health is unfair and lacks morals and ethics
It has come to my attention that I was ill-advised by one of momentum health's consultants, it's a pity I can't remember her name.
About 3 to 2 weeks ago I called trying to re-instate my, medical aid. When we spoke on the phone with her, I was under the impression that since my last payment was in January 2021, and two months have passed with no contributions from my side to the medical aid, she told me my momentum medical membership was discontinued/lapsed.
I was fine with that and understood it.
She then forwarded me forms to fill in to re-instate the membership I was like I will do that.
I filled the forms made a payment of R4 200 and another for R800 for the Healthsaver on the 25th of March.
A couple of days later, on the 30th I get an email saying medical aid has been reinstated, but however it has been suspended, I was like how can the medical aid be re-instated and suspended at the same time. In the same email, I was told I have an outstanding balance of R8 372.
I mean from Feb 2021 to till now I have had no cover at all for me and my family and in Feb and March my kids got I had to pay out of pocket for that and you want me to pay another 12k???
Where are the morals and ethics, by the way during this period of no cover if I needed to be in hospital I would have not been covered not even one bit!!! But you still want me to pay, what I am I paying for exactly cause I had no cover and still have no cover?
On the 7th of April, I responded to Roshinee Naidoo, who sent me the mail about the outstanding amount, I asked what exactly am I paying for here cause there no cover, for the past 2 months, she never responded.
So I like in the meantime I was like let me pay more while I try to get this matter sorted so pay another R3 300 + R900, so now we are sitting at a total of R9 200 and still cover.
Today I followed up again, the agent through the WhatsApp chat tells me the below.
"Please note that in order to keep your previous membership active there should be no break in cover hence the previous month's contributions will need to be paid in. If you did not want to be reinstated, then you would have need to re-apply, however, there will be underwriting which means any pre-existing conditions will be excluded for the first 12 months."
And I'm like why did the first consultant not tell me this?
Cause this option is the most sensible thing to do for a person who is under financial strain 12k covers my medical aid for 3 months, 3 freaking months.
What kinda corporate greed and selfishness is this from Momentum??? or was the consultant looking out for her own commission?
I must tell I absolutely feel cheat by Momentum in this situation.
I can’t put so much money and still not have cover, it really does not make sense at all.
Can I please ask that we start a new membership and please transfer the 9200 already paid into the new membership, please.
Thank you for bringing this enquiry to our attention, we will call you shortly and assist.
