MOMENTUM HEALTH IS A HORRIBLE SERVICE PROVIDER!!!
MOMENTUM IS A HORRIBLE SERVICE PROVIDER!!!
On the 11th of August 2023 (Friday), my son had an incident at school. I then called an ambulance and he was taken to hospital, we got at hospital around 3pm, around 6pm the doctor informed me that they’re going to admit my son to hospital since his condition was bad. Then the hospital called momentum for authorisation, the lady from momentum that was assisting us, informed the hospital that they’re reluctant to authorize my son’s admission as we are with the scheme for less than 12 months. That came as a shock to me, because when I took the cover, I was told that I was covered immediately, except for pre-existing medical conditions, that means we have to wait for twelve months before we can be covered for pre-existing conditions. I was honest with the consultant, I did informed him of pre-existing medical conditions.
What is really breaking my heart is that I have been with the scheme for 10 months now and I have been consistent with my premiums, I PAY MY PREMIUMS RAW, I have no subsidy since I’m self-employed and it was my first time requesting momentum to authorize for my son’s hospitalisation.
Since 6pm the hospital has been waiting for momentum to give us a reference number for authorisation. They sent us from pillar to strength, giving us a lame excuses that my son has been with a scheme for less than 12 months, they requested that the hospital send them an incident report of which the hospital did, however the lady from momentum that was assisting us kept on saying that she hasn’t received the incident report, bare in mind that the report was emailed to her more than five times. Since I could see that momentum was dragging their feet, I had to intervene and I called them myself several times and sent them more than 3 emails yet they keep on giving us a run around. The lady that was assisting us, was so unprofessional, you could tell that she was not willing to assist us.
We only got a reference number around 10pm, so we had to wait for more than 3 hours for authorisation.
It is very frustrating that one has to wait for 12 months before they can be “injured” or find themselves in an “emergency” situation before they could be attended too. Is as if one planned for their emergency, in the case of my son it was not a pre-existing condition but an accident.
My son was finally admitted around 10pm after a hustle. On Saturday morning, the nurse sent another request for an authorisation of a scan. Momentum decided to ignore the request again. My son had to be discharged on Tuesday morning without being scanned as was recommended by the doctor.
On Wednesday morning, I received a call from momentum informing that they’ve authorised my son’s scan, however, I must do a co-payment as the specialist is not on their panel, I was surprised because my son has already been discharged without being scanned due to their negligence.
I just want to let momentum know that if anything happens to my son due to their negligence, they will be held accountable. I will escalate this matter, I’m not going to let it slide.
For the past 10 months I’ve paid more than R35 000,00 already and it was for the first time my son being hospitalised. They only care about money over the lives of their clients and they make it too obvious. It’s like they’re doing us a favour when it’s time to provide for services. Yet when they want to make a sale they’re nice and intentionally omit important information because they’re too desperate to make a sale at that moment and be giving people misleading information. I don’t want anything to do with momentum.
Thank you for bringing this matter to us. We will call you to discuss.
kind regards,
Nosipho
