Momentum: A hospital plan where you are unable to receive authorisation for admission.
We have had the worst service from momentum. We joined their hospital plan in May 2018. No information was asked from us regarding chronic illnesses and medical history. We were also not informed that upon admission a co-payment of R1300 had to be paid. My 2 year old son needed to be admitted on 02 July, we were behind in our payments, phoned momentum who promised if we paid the outstanding amount before 5pm it would reflect on their side and my son could be admitted that same day. We did that and was denied at reception and told to come back in the morning once the payment reflected. Is the medical industry not 24/7? The next morning i was phoned by a momentum employee whom said i can go ahead with the the admission, i took him back to his paediatrician who said give it another day and see how he is. The next day he was worse, i took him to the emergency ward, as his paediatrician was on leave, The doctor on duty wanted to admit him but was told it would take 72 hours before he could be admitted due to the fact that no medical history was received from us or his doctors, please note this was not asked from us,and if we had failed to hand in this information is it not the job of the employees of momentum to mske sure all this information is up to date and received from the client? The 72 HOUR process was to check if my son had not had chronic tonsillitis, sinusitis, ear infection, scarlet fever as well as vomiting and diarrhoea for the past 12 months, these are not even chronic illnesses!! So once again he could not be admitted due to the lack of communication from momentum and the ********** customer service. On 04 July we emailed momentum in order to cancel our membership and get a refund for this month as they were of absolute no service. Momentum responded a few days later stating that they will need a months notice and asked if they should go ahead with the cancellation... in other words i should pay for another month of no service. A hospital plan where you cannot get authorisation for admission!! What is the point ? One takes out a hospital plan/ medical aid in order to be covered when something like this happens. Pathetic. Easy to take your money and in return no service given!!
