Horrible service.

I'm forever sorry I joined Momentum. In 2016 it was a complete nightmare getting authorisation for a hip operation. Now that I need a shoulder operation they are not willing to authorise certain procedures. I trust and value my doctor's diagnosis more than I value what a medical aid thinks must be done to my body. This clearly shows that they only care about money and not the well-being of their members. It also shows how little they respect Dr. Steyn.

Needing an operation is extremely stressful and for your medical aid to reject authorizing what your doctor told you must be done, is absolutely nerve-racking. Isn't this what why we have medical aid?

I was told that the doctor can perform the procedures while operating on me and must thereafter submit a motivational letter why the procedures were necessary. Momentum will only then decide if they will cover the cost. This is ridiculous and I simply cannot take the financial risk. I'd rather complain to the ombudsman based on the doctor's letter as I will then AGAIN need an operation and go through all the trauma again.

My mother has to have exactly the same operation. She is with Discovery and everything was immediately approved; no questions asked.

My total contribution to Momentum (medical aid, provident fund and multiply) is almost R8000 per month. It is time to move. IF you don't want the same to happen to you, I suggest you do the same.
