Abandoned Overseas

Due to a total lack of interest to resolve this issue via the call center I am forced to try some alternative platforms. Prior to travelling to Thailand I inquired about travel insurance from Momentum and was told I qualify for a free 90 day travel insurance through a third party partner, which would cover me for the duration of my travels. As stated on the policy, the date of cover would be from the 1st of November 2018 until the 29th of January 2019. On the 12th of January 2019 I was involved in an accident in Thailand and rushed to the government/teaching hospital in Chiang Mai. We notified International SOS (third party) via the emergency number provided on the policy. International SOS then discussed my condition with the hospital and after being declared medically fit to be moved, I was moved to a private room in a private hospital of their choosing. Further guarantees where issued and verbal confirmation was given over a recorded conversation that all costs would be covered. Approximately 15 minutes before my surgery however we received another call from International SOS to inform us that Momentum is refusing to pay. The reason they stated is that I cancelled my medical insurance at the end of 2018 and therefor the travel insurance automatically ended at the same time. This was a complete surprise to me as I was never informed of the fact that the policies were linked, not at the time of issue or cancellation of my medical policy. At no point did I request the travel insurance to be cancelled as my email correspondence will prove. I cancelled my medical policy as I was getting medical insurance at the end of January from a local provider as the Momentum policy would not cover me overseas, therefor making it redundant. Moving me to an expensive private hospital and then dumping me with the bill is absurd to say the least. I have been discharged now, but the hospital has taken possession of my passport until the outstanding amount has been settled. It's quite simple, the travel insurance was issued as a free 90 day benefit through International SOS and the accident happened within that term, so there is no reason for this claim to be repudiated.

Hahaha, after all of this I get a response which is almost identical to all the other generic responses I have received from the call center, which is why I did this to start with. This simply proves that Momentum is not interested in addressing or even considering the issue. Please know that this issue is going to cripple me financially all so that your big corporation can save a few thousand rand by once again finding a loophole after clearly making a mistake! What a joke!!
