Beware of ********** Contracts
On the 14th of November 2019 I was called by a telemarketer offering me a good deal for an uncapped data on a 24 month contract. On the 25th of November I received a parcel via RAM couriers, containing a Huawei 4G router B525 and a Telkom sim card.
The evening of the 25th i struggled to connect it at home. The following morning (26th) I called Huawei, Telkom and Mobile Talk and I was finally connected when at work. I used the router from approx. 9h30 to 13h00 then I switched it off. In the evening at about 19h30 I tried to reconnect and I couldn't. I then called Telkom who just didn't seem to understand why I couldn't connect. Finally they picked up that I was on an Uncapped Wireless Business Hours Package. This service runs till 17h00. Can you imagine my shock! I wanted uncapped all hours. No one mentioned this important detail to me when they were selling me this package. Why would I need wifi during business hours when I am at work?
Then I called Mobile Talk and their service ends at 17h30 so I couldn't get help. That evening I did some research on this company and my fears were confirmed by reviews from so many unhappy consumers.
This morning (27 Nov) I called Mobile Talk wanting to understand why they gave me such a package. without any questions the person on the other line (Sumeshen) advised me to cancel my contract, Note, I didn't want to cancel as all people on the reviews said their bank accounts were still being debited even after the device and sim card were collected. I asked if I cannot be upgraded to all hours but Sumeshen said they only have business hours packages and that I'd rather cancel.
I have cancelled my contract as of today and was told that a courier would come collect the parcel between 7-10 working days but am fearful that my bank account will still be debited.
Telkom personnel said that they cannot assist me as it is not them but a 3rd party that is in question but my question is how can they allow such a company to tarnish their name? Those sim cards, network and data belongs to them so surely they should be able to intervene.
I have now received 3 different cancellation SMS's from SafetyBox, RescueBox, and Hotspotter, these are companies that I've never heard from before. What is really going on here?
How can i make sure that my account is not debited by Mobile Talk?
