HEAR ME OUT? MMA Cars, Pinetown. 139 Josiah Gumede Rd, Pinetown, New Germany, 3600

A MUST READ! BE AWARE OF THIS BUSINESS GUYS. In October 2021, I purchased an Hyundai veloster 1.6 GDI from MMA cars in Pinetown, 139 Josiah Gumede Rd, Pinetown, New Germany, 3600. Ive had the car for the first 3 months of which the timing chain needed replacing, catalytic converter which packed up needed replacing as well as the boot lid actuator (swicth that triggers the lock and unlock function of the trunk). I had also not been informed that the vehicle had been resprayed after an accident as there was no vehicle history produced as i was told by CALVIN, the sales assistant who sold me the vehicle. This had been seen by a professional panel beater. I had already put down a R95000,00 deposit which was not refundable as i was also told by CALVIN. I then approached MMA Cars, Pinetown explaining my challenges with the vehicle. I spoke to the sales assistant CALVIN (who no longer works there) I told him that i hear a rattle noise coming from the engine and he advised me that the noise im hearing comes from the belt which rotates the pulleys on the side of the engine. He then advise me to use sunlight liquid to make the belt wet as it is too dry and had seen the same issue with VW vehicles. So anyway, ive tried the sunlight liquid at home and it didnt work. I could still hear the noise, so i return to MMA Cars, Pinetown and advise CALVIN that i havent fixed the problem with sunlight liquid. After making my point and not receiving any satisfaction, i then approach MIKE the manager of the store who advised me that the timing chain needs replacement and that the boot lid switch is not functioning and needs replacing as well, so MIKE refers me to a technician of whom i visited three times. The first of which the technician advised me that theres water leaking into the boot lid which got into the wiring and damaged the switch. The technician then repairs the switch which lasts for 26 days and stops working again due to water damage yet again.. i return to this technitian and this time CALVIN informs me to pay for the repairs as the dealership cannot cover the cost for the second repair and so i pay R450,00 out of my own pocket but i was cool as the job had been done and i had one less problem to worry about. Little did i know that the switch will break again and be replaced in the same day that i find out that the boot lid actuator isnt working and this is going to cost me an additional R1500 of which i had not purchased until this day because i have more serious concerns with my vehicle even though i havent opened my boot in 5 months. With that being said, when i purchased the vehicle i receieved a 3 year warrantly with insureAfrica insurance company based in Johannesburg (who bare in mind takes weeks to process a claim) and none of the RMI approved mechanics ive visited regarding the timing chain problem want to help me due to the extremely long waiting period. So i return back to MIKE and advise him that i need to replace the timing chain. MIKE advised me to visit PJs Auto, 2 Bishop Rd, Pinetown, Durban, 3600 an RMI approved mechanic just one road away from MMA cars, Pinetown and speak to the Owner who goes by the name of PETER as the Hyundai workshop in Pinetown of which they usually send their vehicles to for a service or repairs has closed down (which was a lie). I am now in the month of December 2021. I then visit PETER who agrees to replace the timing chain. So PETER then process the warranty claim from insureAfrica, this entire claim process takes 18 days but i received my vehicle back with a new timing chain and an added dent and scratch to the rocker panel (metal support below the doors of a vehicle of which you car jack rests on when lifting the vehicle up off the ground to be repaired which runs from the front to the back tyres of the vehicle) underneath the driver side door of which the paint is scratched off and the beam has a dent due to a lack of rubber cups or fabricated support. I then leave a happy customer (or so i thought) as i had not yet noticed the damages. On to my next problem, the CAT. I then run a diagnostic on my vehicle and find printed proof that the catalytic converter is packing up so i approach MMA Cars to inform CALVIN and MIKE that the catalytic converter is about to pack up as the car is throwing off a check engine light and losing power. I am then informed by CALVIN and MIKE that they do no cover those repairs and its not their concern so i find an exhaust specialist company in Pinetown by the name of Powerflow exhaust127 Josiah Gumede Rd, Pinetown, New Germany, 3600 who charged me R2200,00 for the repairs and did not remove the catalytic converter instead they removed the precious metals from the inside of the catalytic converter (Platinum, copper and so on which sells for thousands of rands) which increases airflow out of the exhaust. The engine light went of as air was now flowing with ease. Then i thought to myself "Problem 2 is solved" and it was but i got **********. Five months into driving my vehicle (the month of May 2022 i begin to hear the same timing chain noise. At this point im curios, so out of curiosity i decided to take my vehicle to an Hyundai dealership for an inspection so i do my research and find a Hyundai branch in Pinetown. I then take my car to the Hyundai branch in Pinetown,151 Josiah Gumede Rd, Pinetown, 3600 of which had supposedly closed down (like MIKE advised) and had my timing chain checked which costed me R2340,00. The Hyundai technician (God bless him) stripped and found the fault within 6 hours. He had then informed me that the timing chain was replaced incorrecly and was not tensioned correctly so the chain has stretched causing it to become loose and dangerous if the car is driven any longer. (Chain could snap leading to bent valves and the pistons would be ruined due to contact with the valves and the vehicle would not be able to start leading to a completely broken engine) and the mechanic who replaced my timing chain causing me all of this stress and trauma is non other than PETER from PJs Auto and the cost to replace the timing chain at Hyundai is R8000,00 of which i eventually paid so that my vehicle is repaired professionally and not by a mechanic who takes chances. At this point ive lost my cool, I AM FURIOUS!!! I then approach MMA Cars again (i begin to count my visits at this point) BLOWING MY TOP OFF and i explain to TYRON SUTHERLAND that my vehicle is at Hyundai and this is the situation that PETER had put me in. R8000,00 to fix a component ive just recently fixed. TYRON then informs me that the vehicle was purchased over 6 months ago and he cannot help me if he doesnt want to and that i have to go back to PETER who damaged my car, caused me a whole lot of stress and anxiety over the past few weeks to do the repairs yet again. He used the sign on the wall of the shop that says "Rights of admission reserved" and said that he can turn me away and not help me, he also said that my vehicle is a Hyundai but it wasnt purchsed at Hyundai so he and MIKE can send my vehicle to whoever they see fit for repairs. In the end ive received little to no professional help. MMA Cars refused to help me and always found a cheaper route out of a situation that they were legally accountable for at the time and stalled me until my 6 month purchase period was over so that they wont have to assist me thereafter and because i dont have the time to take legal action against this business ive decided to write this post so that anyone who plans on buying a vehicle from this dealership will read this post and have a clear understanding of what kind of customer service they will be dealing with. Ive spend R12990,00 within my first 7 months of owning a vehicle which was purchased from MMA Cars in Pinetown not to mention the litres of fuel used, days i had to take off from work, annual leave ive used up and inconvenience to my passengers. Heres to hoping that you make the right choice when buying your next vehicle, dont be caught up with the glits and glamour, a car sales assistant is there to feed into your ego and stylish nature. Please be very aware and stay safe. Stress is a silent killer and to add on, times are tough.

Good day, in response to your review on our company, for an 8 Year old vehicle, we assisted when issues were raised relating to the vehicle. All repairs undertaken carry a 6 Month / 10,000km Guarantee on Workmanship.

Vehicles are inspected and tested by our qualified Team before selling – vehicles are verified and checked online and Insurance data confirmed to ensure no accident claims are present through Insurance companies. This vehicle has been confirmed as clear. Vehicles are then test driven and checked by the client prior to delivery to ensure all is in order at the point of release.

On review of the issues, we repaired where mandated within the stipulated 6 Month CPA Guarantee period on components we are liable for per this guarantee.

Even after the 6 Month guarantee period had expired , we undertook repair at your request, at our cost, where you, the client, had confirmed you had been taking the vehicle to Workshops of your own volition which strictly would repudiate any warranty we offer, as this was outside our authorisation and after the expiration of the mandatory guarantee period.
